Carpentry in Monbulk

Working in Monbulk is a real pleasure as I’m surrounded by beautiful gardens with wonderful views of the Yarra Ranges. It’s one of the ideal spots to pick up some local fruit and flowers at one of the many roadside shops.

I’ve built a few gates in Monbulk. While they are generally a similar style, gates can have their own individual look as well. The majority of the gates I’ve built have vertical treated pine battens fixed to the front with a 20mm (2cm) gap in between each batten. This allows for enough space to be able to see what’s happening on the other side of the gate but also provides a reasonable amount of privacy too. Alternatively, the battens can be fitted close together so there are no gaps in between. The top of the gate also doesn’t have to be flat; it can be curved like an arch. There are also different styles of cladding to fix to the front of your gate that can be tailored to match the style of your house. Pickets come in many shapes and there are also different profiles of other timbers available for a more unique appearance.

I’ve also built a lovely low-level deck and table on a balcony to make it a much more useable space. The decking used was the wider 135mm treated pine and this was also used for the table top. Enough width between each board was left to enable rain to pass through and for adequate air flow. The deck and table provide a lovely entertaining space and a perfect spot to enjoy the spectacular views.
